Chronology of cameras Ace Camera
This pseudo TLR (Twin Lens Reflex) was manufactured in the mid-1950s in Bombay, India, by the company Ace Camera Equips. PVT LTD. It closely resembles the Anscoflex II manufactured by Ansco.
One can assume that this company acquired the manufacturing license from Ansco towards the end of the commercial career of the Anscoflex II.
Surprisingly, the copy was more advanced than the original, as the Sure-Flex has a selector on the front, on either side of the taking lens, allowing for a choice between two aperture settings and another for selecting between two shutter speeds. These selectors were not present on the Anscoflex II.
This particular piece is in poor condition. Years of exposure to hot and humid weather have taken a toll on it. It was found on a shelf in a small shop in Chennai, on the southeast coast of the country.
